Viet Nam Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung
The Viet Nam Energy Summit 2020 was held by the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission in Ha Noi on July 22, aiming to disseminate the Politburo’s Resolution No. 55-NQ/TW on the orientation of Viet Nam’s National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed that Viet Nam always pays special attention to and makes adequate investments in the development of energy, in an effort to ensure national energy security and boost production.
The domestic energy industry has risen to become a large-scale economic sector of dynamic development and extensive international integration, with the energy consumption structure currently shifting towards industrialization and switching the sector to operate under the market mechanism, he stated.
Both the people and businesses have now been aware of using energy in an economical and effective manner, the deputy PM said, noting that huge resources have been mobilised from all economic sectors for energy development.

In addition to the positive aspects, he pointed out the problems facing the sector, including challenges to the goal of ensuring national energy security in the context of declining domestic supplies, difficulties in energy infrastructure development, the competitive energy market yet to be synchronously developed, and inadequacies in policies on energy prices.
He touched upon the key groups of tasks that the Government and the Prime Minister are directing Viet Nam’s energy industry to implement, including the completion of energy-related institutions, the development of energy development strategies, the building of energy development plans, the switching of the energy sector to the market mechanism.
The forum featured three discussion sessions focusing on the topics of shifting the energy structure associated with sustainable energy infrastructure development in Viet Nam’s National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, vision to 2045; economical and efficient use of energy for Viet Nam’s sustainable energy development until 2030, vision to 2045; and the development of solar energy and new energies in Viet Nam’s National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, vision to 2045.
