Prince Andrew is was set to stand trial in the United States for Sexual Assualt charges

Today Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached an out-of-court settlement on the charges of sexual abuse. Both parties are expected to file a notice of dismissal within the next 30 days. Giuffre had claimed the Duke of York took part in her being trafficked by his friends the late billionaire convicted of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and recently convicted Ghislaine Maxwell. The lawyers for The Duke of York further claim their client would have been covered under a previous settlement between Giuffre and Epstein to include any associates of theirs from being named in any future lawsuits.

Prince Andrew was set to stand trial in the United States after a judge concluded Ms Giuffe’s case had significant merit to proceed. The possibility of Andrew standing trial would open him up to a discovery process and a deposition. In both instances, the information that may surface would be detrimental to the Prince and the Royal Family and give validity to Ms Giuffe’s claims.

“Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms. Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.” Statement from Settlement letter

It is very unlikely Prince Andrew will return to official duties of representing the Monarch in the near future. The Duke of York was publically demoted from his role in the Royal family, the military and their charities. The Royal family is no stranger to controversies and scandals, and Prince Andrew’s allegations of sexual assault are just another chapter to be added in the book of the Royals.
