Quebec commits $7 million over 5 years to cut through the red tape associated with death
The loss of a loved one is a stressful time and often leaves many uncertainties. Whether it is the cost of a funeral, probating a will, or navigating the many government offices and rules, it amplifies the anxiety of an already stressful ordeal.
Today Quebec Minister of labour Jean Boulet bring some well-needed change to the people of Quebec with the launch of the Government Action Plan to simplify administrative procedures following a death 2022-2027, with an envelope of $7 million over 5 years. Through this action plan, the Government of Quebec wishes to make life easier for people affected by the death of a loved one by offering them personalized services and simplifying the administrative procedures they have to complete.
The Action Plan includes nine measures grouped under three general axes, namely
- better inform and guide the population with regard to the steps to be taken in the event of a death;
- reduce the volume of steps required in the event of a death and the delays;
- facilitate the process through legislative changes.
In particular, the work will make it possible to considerably reduce the number of administrative procedures and processing times in the event of a death.
This action plan results from the mobilization and concerted action of a dozen departments and agencies as well as partners involved in procedures relating to death in Québec, particularly the Chambre des notaires du Québec and the Barreau du Québec.
