J.K. Rowling ask Twitter for help with life-threatening tweet

On Friday, the author of the famous Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, received threatening comments on Twitter following one of her posts.

In New York earlier last week, a fellow writer, Salman Rushdie, was stabbed multiple times, hospitalizing him. According to his agent, Rushdie was on a ventilator and suffered severe damage to nerves in his arms, eye, and liver. Rowling and many other authors and public figures were sending support to Rushdie. In a tweet, J.K. Rowling said, “Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok.”

In a comment to Rowling’s tweet, a man responded with, “Don’t worry, you are next.” The person that posted the threatening response had tweeted on his page that praised Hadi Matt, the man who attacked Rushdie.

On receiving the terrifying tweet, Rowling pleads to Twitter Support, asking them for help. At first, they responded by saying the tweet did not go against their terms, to which Rowling quoted their policies regarding life-threatening messages. Rowling also informed the police, who are now investigating the threat. On Sunday night, the tweet that threatened Rowling was taken down.

Being in the social media spotlight is something J.K Rowling has experienced before. The author stirred controversy when she publicly clarified her stance on transgender and gender roles.
