Being an Olympian is every child’s dream. The idea of standing on the podium, hearing your national anthem play, and being watched by millions of people is an incredibly powerful and emotional experience. It represents the pinnacle of achievement in sports, and for many athletes, it is the ultimate goal of their careers. The Olympics is not just about winning medals; it’s about representing your country, pushing yourself to the limit and achieving the impossible. It’s the ultimate test of skill, determination and mental fortitude, and for many, the chance to be an Olympian is a lifelong dream.
For any dream to materialize, you need resources, Olympic-level training and coaches in place to produce Olympic-level athletes. Lucky for future Canadian Olympic hopefuls, there are programs in place to turn your everyday Canadian into a high-performance athlete. Leading the way is The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Training Ground program.
It is a national initiative launched by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF). The program was first introduced in 2016 and aims to discover and develop Canada’s next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
The program is open to athletes aged 14-25 and provides them with the opportunity to be tested and evaluated by high-performance Olympians and experts in various sports, including athletics, gymnastics, rowing, cycling, swimming, and more. The program uses a combination of physical and mental testing to identify athletes with the potential to excel at the highest level of competition.
The goal of the RBC Training Ground program is to help Canada’s future Olympic and Paralympic athletes achieve their full potential by providing them with the resources and support they need to reach the podium. This includes access to training and equipment, coaching and mentoring, and financial support.
The program also aims to promote the importance of physical literacy and inspire young Canadians to lead active and healthy lives. By participating in the program, athletes are not only given a chance to develop their athletic abilities, but they also learn valuable skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
Today’s program was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, accompanied by Olympians, top training professionals and the members of the RBC Team. On hand was Mr. Jaime Torres, RBC’s Team Manager, Client Care Centre, who has been an integral part of Manitoba’s volunteer community and an ambassador for the program. Mr. Torres was impressed by the amazing amount of talented, enthusiastic athletes coming out of Manitoba. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude and pride shown by all the volunteers to help create Canada’s future Olympians.
Athletes will be tested and evaluated by a team of experts in various sports, and those who show the most potential will be given the opportunity to advance to the next level of the program. With the support of RBC, the COC, and the COF, athletes will have access to the resources and expertise they need to reach the podium.
